Following the successes of the roadshows in Preah Sihanouk, Kampong Cham, Siem Reap, and Banteay Meanchey provinces, Cambodian Derivatives Exchange (“CDX”) and Securities and Exchange Commission of Cambodia (“SECC”) have now accomplished their 2018 five-province roadshow, with the latest event held on December 08, 2018 at Khemara Battambang Hotel, Battambang province, the final station of this year’s roadshow. A multitude of people turned up, making it one of the remarkable knowledge-related events.
Presided over the last roadshow, H.E. Mr. Sok Dara, SECC’s Deputy Director General, delivered his remarks giving a special acknowledgement and appreciation to CDX for being the only Central Counterparty company that joined all of the roadshow stops this year and emphasizing SECC’s dedication to duties of taking Cambodia derivatives market to the highest-possible level. He also encouraged CDX’s all derivatives counterparts to continue working hard on raising the extensiveness of derivatives investment awareness and implementing investor-protection policies.
Mr. Yun Sovannara, Deputy Head of Collective Investment Scheme and Derivatives Business Supervision Division of SECC, provided the participants with the understanding of the overview of derivatives market, the current situation of Cambodia derivatives trading, derivatives development-related challenges, and SECC’s commitment to acceleration the furtherance of the derivatives investment.
CDX is proud of its omnipresence in the 2018 roadshow as it mirrored the company’s genuine commitment and perseverance to educate the public, to present investment opportunities for prospective investors in different parts of Cambodia, to raise the standards of the trading practices, to advocate SECC’s missions and visions, and to contribute to betterment of the economy of Cambodia.
As a special guest speaker, CDX’s Director Mr. Lawrence Kook underlined the importance of this year’s five-province roadshow, creating the foundation for the prosperity of the Cambodia derivatives market for years to come.
“I am delighted to have joined and shared my experiences at all roadshow stations in 2018, and I would like to say thanks to SECC for making it happen. From my observation and over 20 years of experience, I’ve found that Cambodian investors are giving much attention to learning derivatives investment. I think this roadshow is a good platform and catalyst for them to learn more about such investment,” Mr. Lawrence said.
“Since day one, I’ve always said that Cambodia derivatives market holds great potential, and I am happy that we are inspiring international derivative brokerages getting regulated in this beautiful country. Our work is not done, the progress could be at a faster pace if we continue to enroll more agencies to be regulated,” the CDX’s Director added.
“Although we have established ourselves as the pioneer for this new industry, we will continue the effort on bringing the Cambodia derivatives market to the global stage, not just in the ASEAN region. We would love to be the history maker,” Lawrence said as he referred to CDX’s partaking in the iFX Expo in Cyprus earlier this year and the London Summit recently.
