On November 30, 2018, Cambodian Derivatives Exchange (“CDX”) kicked off its committed engagement in Securities and Exchange Commission of Cambodia’s (“SECC”) five-province roadshow for 2018 at Sokha Beach Resort, Preah Sihanouk province, the first station of the roadshow, with other four provinces including Kampong Cham, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, and Battambang. The roadshow, with a topic of “Derivative Businesses in Cambodia”, was centered around promoting and expanding the nationwide awareness of derivatives investment, building trust and confidence of investors, and preparing them properly ready for such investment.
Prior to this roadshow, CDX had carried out seminars for different groups of participants and co-organized with SECC in holding various forums as well as workshops in Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia.
H.E. Mr. Seang Thirith, Deputy Director General of SECC, officially kicked off the roadshow with his opening remarks mentioning SECC’s mission to promote derivatives trading throughout Cambodia, encouraging the participants to acquire knowledge of derivatives market, and considering trading derivatives. His remarks were then followed by presentation of Mr. Yun Sovannara, Deputy Head of Collective Investment Scheme and Derivatives Business Supervision Division of SECC, highlighting the overview of derivatives market, the progress of Cambodia derivatives trading, and regulatory framework, a set of regulations used to ensure transparent trading mechanism and investor protection.
As a guest speaker, Mr. Lawrence Kook, Director of CDX, expressed his delight at joining the 2018 roadshow with SECC, laying stress on the fact that promoting awareness and spreading knowledge of financial instruments trading extensively have long been what CDX aims to achieve. Mr. Lawrence then went on to emphasize the importance of self-assessment and applying the appropriate strategies to tailor for each investor and how to get rewards from it. With CDX joining the roadshow at the other four provinces in early December of 2018, he also declared CDX’s commitment to participating in other roadshows and events of SECC in coming years.
The outcome of the roadshow at the Preah Sihanouk province proved to be a big success not only because of the presence of many participants but also of the quality of their understanding of the contents. Dozens of the participants even requested private and small group meetings just after the roadshow finished, indicating the increase in awareness and interest in derivatives investment.
