Cambodian Derivatives Exchange (“CDX”) partook on December 04, 2018 in Securities and Exchange Commission of Cambodia’s (“SECC”) five-province roadshow for 2018 at LBN Asian Hotel, Kampong Cham province, the second station of the roadshow, following last week’s participation in the first destination in Preah Sihanouk province. Under a topic of “Derivative Businesses in Cambodia”, the roadshow was aimed at fostering and widening the awareness of derivatives investment, promoting regulatory framework, building trust and confidence of investors, and equipping them with skills and strategies needed for such investment.
The next stations are Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, and Battambang, which are all considered as highly potential zones when it comes to the population, investment background, and economic level of the residents.
Presided over the roadshow in Kampong Cham province, H.E. Mr. Sou Socheat, Director General of SECC, delivered his remarks primarily highlighting that SECC had a dedication to duties of promoting derivatives trading in every part of Cambodia and facilitating the growth of the regulated market. That SECC would protect and make investment choices easy for investors by publicly announcing licensed firms, their trading reports, and their risk management methods was also mentioned during the remarks.
Mr. Yun Sovannara, Deputy Head of Collective Investment Scheme and Derivatives Business Supervision Division of SECC, then emphasized the overview of derivatives market, the progress of Cambodia derivatives trading, regulatory framework, arising challenges, and SECC’s future action plans. Mr. Sovannara believed that all of these would attribute to the development of the derivatives industry in general.
Through its participation in every event of SECC and its commitment in taking Cambodia financial market to be on par with international standards, CDX has shown a real example of professionalism and inspired its derivatives counterparts to emulate these efforts.
Being a guest speaker, Mr. Lawrence Kook, Director of CDX, was delighted to engage in the 2018 roadshow with SECC, giving prominence to the fact that boosting awareness and spreading knowledge of financial investment extensively are always on CDX’s top priority list.
Earlier this year, CDX showed its presence at an international exhibition in Cyprus, and the exchange once again took part in large-scale international events with its participation in the 2018 London Summit in England last month. CDX was the only Asian faces from Cambodia at the summit and proudly presented the culture along with various investment opportunities for foreign investors.
“Cambodia derivatives market has continued to pursue its promising potential. More derivative brokers from different countries such as Japan, China, and Vietnam are joining us, and under SECC’s leadership, CDX has taken Cambodia derivatives market outside of the ASEAN region,” Mr. Lawrence added.
The upshot of the roadshow at Kompong Cham province was remarkable. More than 180 participants turned up showing their genuine interest in derivatives investment, which offers glimpse of brighter future of Cambodia derivatives industry.
